«Mahler: Symphony No. 8» is an album by Gustav Mahler with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Georg Solti, released on CD by Decca in 1999.
Choral work in two parts, known as the Symphony of a Thousand. The first part develops the hymn «Veni, creator spiritus»; the second is inspired by the final scene of Goethe's Faust and combines lyrical passages with great orchestral and choral display. Highlights include «Veni, creator spiritus» and «Blicket auf zum Retterblick».
Recorded at the Sofiensaal in Vienna in August and September 1971; this edition from the Decca Legends collection includes 96 kHz/24-bit digital remastering.
For classical music enthusiasts, especially symphonic-choral music and remastered historical recordings.
