«Les Contes d'Hoffmann» is the opera album by Jacques Offenbach, released in 1989 by Voix de Son Maitre on CD.
The work, divided into four acts with a libretto by Jules Barbier, follows the poet Hoffmann as he recalls his three great loves —Olympia, Giulietta and Antonia— in as many fantastical tales marked by illusion and disillusionment.
André Cluytens conducts the Orchestre de la Société des Concerts du Conservatoire, with Nicolai Gedda, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and Victoria de los Ángeles among the soloists. Stereo remastered edition, on 2 CDs.
For opera enthusiasts and lovers of great vocal performances.
