This 2-CD compilation features two masterpieces of the French Baroque repertoire: Jean-Baptiste Lully and Molière's 'Le Bourgeois gentilhomme' alongside André Campra's 'L'Europe galante'. Conducted by Gustav Leonhardt and performed by La Petite Bande, this recording provides a refined, historically informed approach to these essential classical works.
Lully's work, originally conceived as a comédie-ballet, is masterfully paired with Campra's ballet suite, highlighting the instrumental richness and elegance characteristic of the Baroque period. It is an essential addition for collectors and enthusiasts of early music seeking definitive performances.
