«Lazarus» is the oratorio by Franz Schubert, released in 2003 by Brilliant Classics on double CD.
The oratorio, with libretto by August Hermann Niemeyer, dramatises the resurrection of Lazarus and is presented in the version completed by Edison Denisov. It is a religious drama in three acts for soloists, choir and orchestra, with characters such as Maria, Martha, Lazarus, Nathanael and Simon.
Recorded in Stuttgart in January 1996: Gächinger Kantorei Stuttgart, Bach-Collegium Stuttgart, conductor Helmut Rilling. Soloists: Sibylla Rubens, Camilla Nylund, Scot Weir and Matthias Goerne.
