«Hänsel und Gretel» is the recording of Engelbert Humperdinck's opera conducted by Sir Georg Solti, released in 1997 by Decca on double CD.
Opera based on the classic fairy tale in which siblings Hänsel and Gretel encounter a witch. Engelbert Humperdinck develops a romantic-style score, with orchestral passages, children's choruses and an atmosphere alternating between the magical and the dramatic.
Performers include Lucia Popp, Brigitte Fassbaender and Walter Berry, with the Wiener Sängerknaben and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. The edition is remastered and sung in German.
For listeners of romantic opera and classical music who appreciate recordings with children's chorus.
