«Goldberg Variations / Diabelli Variations» is the double album by Daniel Barenboim, released in 2000 on Teldec, on CD.
The album brings together two landmarks of the keyboard repertoire: the Goldberg Variations, BWV 988, by Johann Sebastian Bach, and the Variations on a Waltz by Anton Diabelli, Op. 120, by Ludwig van Beethoven. Daniel Barenboim performs them on piano in a recording that pits Bach's Baroque architecture against Beethoven's inventiveness.
Double CD edition from the Teldec label, part of the «50 Years of Performance» series. The back cover credits Barenboim on a Steinway piano and includes the total timings for each disc: 67'48" and 70'28".
For classical music enthusiasts, especially those interested in piano versions of Bach and Beethoven.
