«Euridice» is the opera album by Jacopo Peri, released in 2008 by Arts Network as a double CD.
Composed by Jacopo Peri with a libretto by Ottavio Rinuccini, «Euridice» is a landmark in the birth of opera and is presented in this edition as the first opera in history. The drama recreates the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice: after Eurydice's death, Orpheus descends to the underworld to recover her, with characters such as Charon and Pluto.
The recording features Gloria Banditelli, Gian Paolo Fagotto, Mario Cecchetti, Sergio Foresti and Rossana Bertini, together with the Ensemble Arpeggio conducted by Roberto De Caro.
Suitable for fans of early opera and classical music, particularly for those wishing to discover the origins of the genre.
