«Ein Heldenleben / Tod und Verklärung» is the album by Richard Strauss with the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich and David Zinman, on CD (Arte Nova Classics, 2004).
The CD brings together two symphonic poems by Richard Strauss. «Ein Heldenleben» musically describes the life of a hero and his deeds; «Tod und Verklärung» evokes the agony of a sick man and his longing for transfiguration. The Tonhalle Orchester Zürich, conducted by David Zinman, performs both scores.
Part of the Orchestra Works series, vol. 2; it consists of one CD and the total duration is 74 minutes.
Will appeal to fans of classical music and Richard Strauss's symphonic poems.
