«Die Fledermaus» is the operetta by Johann Strauss II on audio CD, with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Clemens Krauss.
Die Fledermaus is a satirical operetta that, beneath its appearance of light entertainment, contains a critical commentary on Viennese high society. The plot plays with feigned identities and social misunderstandings, with a comic tone and a conciliatory ending.
Number 35 in the collection The Classics of Opera 400 Years, with libretto by Karl Haffner and Richard Genée. The recording features the Vienna State Opera Chorus and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
For opera and classical music enthusiasts, especially those interested in the Viennese repertoire of Johann Strauss.
