«Codex Calixtinus» is the album of medieval polyphonies by Ensemble Venance Fortunat, released in 2002 by L'Empreinte Digitale on CD.
The disc brings together the complete polyphonies of the Codex Calixtinus, a 12th-century manuscript linked to the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. Ensemble Venance Fortunat, directed by Anne-Marie Deschamps, performs this medieval repertoire with voices and instrumental accompaniment, in a recording that underscores its liturgical and devotional character.
The cover, in French, presents it as Le Grand Livre de Saint Jacques de Compostelle and indicates that it contains the complete polyphonies of the Codex Calixtinus.
For listeners of early and medieval music and for those interested in the musical heritage linked to Santiago de Compostela.
