«Close-Up» is the studio album by American saxophonist David Sanborn, released in 1988 by Reprise Records on CD.
Close-Up brings together ten contemporary jazz tracks in which Sanborn's alto sax moves between smooth jazz and fusion, produced by Marcus Miller. The repertoire includes pieces such as «Slam», with an energetic opening, the expressive «J.T.» and the melodic «So Far Away».
Produced by Marcus Miller, with Ray Bardani as co-producer, it reached No. 1 on the Billboard jazz chart, No. 36 on the Billboard 200 and was nominated for a Grammy for Best Jazz Fusion Album.
For listeners of smooth jazz and jazz fusion, with a special interest in the alto sax and in 1980s jazz.
