«Christmas Oratorio Arias» is the classical music album by Johann Sebastian Bach, released in 2001 by Deutsche Grammophon on CD.
The Christmas Oratorio, BWV 248, is an oratorio that Bach composed in 1734 for the Christmas festivities; the work is structured in six cantatas. This CD offers a selection of arias and choruses drawn from those cantatas, with the historically informed performance of John Eliot Gardiner, the English Baroque Soloists and various vocal soloists.
The recording is conducted by John Eliot Gardiner and performed by The English Baroque Soloists, with the voices of Anne Sofie von Otter, Nancy Argenta, Olaf Bär and Hans Peter Blochwitz.
For classical music listeners, especially those who value historically informed performances of the Baroque repertoire.
