«August» is the album by British artist Sarah Jane Morris, released in 2001 by Irma on CD.
The record brings together a dozen songs, almost all covers, including «Whatever Gets You Through the Night» by John Lennon, «Mercy, Mercy Me» by Marvin Gaye and «Chelsea Hotel» by Leonard Cohen. Morris and Marc Ribot reworked them with an acoustic, stripped-down sound, between jazz and pop rock.
The project was recorded in three days without rehearsals; production and arrangements were handled by Marc Ribot. Italian edition released by Irma.
For listeners of vocal jazz and acoustic pop rock, and for those seeking understated covers of classics by Lennon, Gaye and Cohen.
