«Ashkelon» is the album by Emil Zrihan, released in 1998 by Piranha Musik on CD.
Cantor Emil Zrihan unites the Judeo-Andalusian tradition with the folklore of Morocco. His countertenor gives voice to North African and Andalusian songs with improvisations or mawals, accompanied by oud, violin, accordion and darbouka. The Mediterranean rhythm and oriental passages evoke the gatherings of Sephardic culture.
The songs are performed in Hebrew and Arabic, with texts in English and French; Baldi Olier collaborates on flamenco guitar and the production is by Yossi Fine.
For fans of Sephardic and traditional music, with a crossover between the Maghreb, the Middle East and flamenco.
