«Arias and Duets from Didone, Egisto, Ormindo, Giasone, Calisto» is the album by Francesco Cavalli, released in 2005 by Naxos on CD.
A selection of arias and duets from five operas by Francesco Cavalli composed in seventeenth-century Venice: Didone, Egisto, Ormindo, Giasone and Calisto. The disc surveys Venetian musical theatre of the Seicento with singable melodies, laments and passacaglias, and shows the shift from the madrigal to a more direct and expressive opera.
Featuring the voices of Gloria Banditelli, Rosita Frisani, Roberto Abbondanza, Gianluca Belfiori Doro and Mario Cecchetti, with the Mediterraneo Consort conducted by Sergio Vartolo.
Recommended for fans of Venetian Baroque opera and seventeenth-century vocal music.
