«And the Kansas City 7» is the album by Count Basie, released in 1996 by GRP Records, on CD.
The album features Count Basie leading the Kansas City 7, a small ensemble with horns played by Thad Jones, Frank Foster, Frank Wess and Eric Dixon. The sound balances classic swing with bop, with Basie's piano marking a restrained pulse and giving room for agile dialogues between the rhythm section and the soloists.
Originally recorded for the Impulse! label, this 1996 remastered CD consists of a single disc.
Aimed at swing and big band fans who want to hear Count Basie in a reduced ensemble.
