«Ancient Airs and Dances Suites Nos. 1-3» is the album by Ottorino Respighi, released in 1997 by Naxos on CD.
The album's three suites recreate pre-classical airs and dances from lute pieces with colourful orchestration. Respighi turns that early music into an elegant symphonic language, with lyrical moments and lively rhythms; notable movements include the Italiana, the Siciliana and the Passacaglia.
Performed by the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland under the direction of Rico Saccani. Recorded at the National Concert Hall in Dublin in September 1995; total duration 53'53''.
Will appeal to classical music fans who enjoy evocative orchestral works with historical inspiration.
