«A State of Wonder: The Complete Goldberg Variations 1955 & 1981» is the compilation by Glenn Gould, released in 2002 by Sony Music, on CD.
It brings together the two recordings Glenn Gould made of the Goldberg Variations, BWV 988, by Johann Sebastian Bach: the 1955 take and the 1981 one. The set allows comparison of the evolution of his interpretation between the two versions. The third CD adds discarded studio takes and the pianist's final interview.
Remastered 3-CD box set, with 153 minutes of duration and notes by Pulitzer Prize winner Tim Page. Catalogue reference: SM3K 87703. European edition.
For classical music fans and admirers of Glenn Gould who want to compare the 1955 and 1981 recordings of the Goldberg Variations.
