«12 Flute Sonatas, Op. 2» is the album of baroque sonatas by Pietro Antonio Locatelli, released on CD by Polygram Records/L'Oiseau-Lyre in 1993.
The album brings together the twelve flute sonatas from Locatelli's Opus 2, an Italian Baroque composer. The performances feature Stephen Preston on flute, Anthony Pleeth on cello and Christopher Hogwood on harpsichord, in a two-CD format combining melody and contrapuntal writing typical of eighteenth-century chamber repertoire.
Recording released by L'Oiseau-Lyre, under the Decca label, in 1980 and reissued on CD in 1993. The set includes two CDs: the first with sonatas 1-7 and the second with sonatas 8-12, with a total duration of 119:44. Catalogue number: 436 191-2.
Recommended for Baroque music enthusiasts interested in flute repertoire or eighteenth-century sonatas.
