«We Were Soldiers» is the film by Randall Wallace (2002), starring Mel Gibson, Madeleine Stowe and Greg Kinnear, on DVD.
The film recreates the first major clash between the US army and North Vietnamese forces in the Ia Drang Valley in 1965. A battalion of about 400 soldiers is surrounded by a vastly superior enemy; the story follows the commanders, the soldiers on the ground and the reporter who documented the battle, in a tale of loyalty and sacrifice.
