Jake and his parents move from Manhattan to Brooklyn, to his grandfather's house. Tony's mother is the tenant of the store that has been in the basement of the house for years. When Jake and Tony, both 13, meet, they discover they share many interests: art, video games, girls. They soon become allies, not only against the neighborhood boys, but also against the rent dispute that has arisen between their families. In an attempt to stop the inexorable effect that the adults' discussion has on their friendship, they come up with a way to protest. A moving story about friendship, family and the challenges of growing up in the city.
