«Samurai I» is the film by Hiroshi Inagaki (1954), starring Toshirô Mifune, Rentarô Mikuni and Kuroemon Onoe, released on DVD by Filmax.
Takezo and his friend Matahachi leave their village to enlist in the army. After a defeat, they take refuge in the home of the widow Oko and her daughter, and Matahachi ends up leaving for Tokyo with them. Returning alone, Takezo is accused of treason and only the intervention of a monk saves him, imposing on him the study of the samurai code.
