Greg Focker, a nurse from Chicago, is deeply in love with his girlfriend Pam. Determined to propose, Greg travels to New York to meet Pam's parents before taking the big step. However, what Greg doesn't know is that he is about to face a trial by fire: winning the approval of Jack Byrnes, Pam's dominant and overprotective father, a retired CIA agent with a peculiar sense of humor and an innate distrust of men who approach his daughter. What follows is a series of disastrous incidents and misunderstandings that test Jack's patience and Greg's sanity, as the latter desperately tries to prove that he is worthy of Pam's hand.
