«Le Cochon de Gaza» is the film by Sylvain Estibal (2011), starring Sasson Gabay, Baya Belal and Myriam Tekaïa, on DVD.
Jafar, a Palestinian fisherman in Gaza, finds a pig in his nets and, as Islamic law forbids keeping it, tries to get rid of it. Each attempt brings him more problems: the animal becomes a constant source of misunderstandings with his community. The film turns this premise into a satirical fable about religion, politics and everyday life under conflict.
Released by Studiocanal, winner of the 2012 César for Best Debut Film. Audio in French (Dolby Digital 5.1) and French subtitles; region 2, one disc, 94 minutes.
For those interested in European cinema and satirical stories with a political backdrop.
