The Magdalene Sisters is a drama film directed by Peter Mullan, set in 1960s Ireland. The plot follows the lives of four young women who are sent to Magdalene asylums, institutions that supposedly rehabilitated women considered 'fallen' by society. In these asylums, the young women suffer physical and psychological abuse while being forced to perform forced labor. The film denounces the cruelty and injustice of these institutions, based on real events.
