In a small European village, two young people are about to get married without knowing each other. Their families have agreed to this marriage of convenience for mutual benefit. The groom's parents are fish canning magnates looking to rise in society, while the bride's parents, from high society but without money, need economic stability. Victor and Victoria meet on the eve of the wedding and like each other, but Victor's nerves ruin the rehearsal. Frustrated, Victor ventures into the forest and unwittingly becomes engaged to a corpse bride who drags him to the Land of the Dead. Although life there is more lively than he expected, Victor decides to return to the world of the living to reunite with Victoria.
