«La escafandra y la mariposa» is the film by Julian Schnabel (2007), starring Mathieu Amalric, Emmanuelle Seigner and Marie-Josée Croze, on DVD.
The film is based on the book that Jean-Dominique Bauby, editor-in-chief of Elle magazine, wrote after being paralysed by a stroke. Affected by locked-in syndrome, he could only move his left eye; by blinking, he dictated his memories and reflections. The film recreates that process between the hospital and his imagination.
