«La Dolorosa» is the zarzuela film by José Luis Moreno (1996), starring Rafael Lledó, María Rodríguez and Vicente Lacárcel, on DVD.
In La Dolorosa, Rafael, a tormented young friar, paints a Dolorosa and reproduces in it the features of Dolores, the woman who prompted his entry into the convent. The tension between his religious vocation and the memory of that love runs through a score of great drama, with outbursts of joy and hope.
Spanish production from 1996, running 72 minutes; collector's edition from the series Unforgettable Zarzuelas, with live recording, region 2.
A proposal for fans of zarzuela, the lyric genre and Spanish musical cinema.
