Set on the Russian front in 1943, this intense war film follows a Wehrmacht battalion, commanded by Colonel Brandt, as they struggle to resist the Soviet advance. The story centers on the conflict between the hardened Sergeant Steiner and Captain Stransky, an officer desperate to win the Iron Cross at any cost, even at the expense of his own men. Directed by the acclaimed Sam Peckinpah, it is a raw and visceral work that explores courage, loneliness, and the brutality of war. This special edition includes a booklet and presents an apocalyptic and realistic view of the conflict, based on the novel by Willi Heinrich.
