«Fausto» is the film by Jan Švankmajer (1994), starring Petr Čepek, Jan Kraus and Vladimír Kučera, on DVD.
Surrealist reinterpretation of the Faust myth: an ordinary man makes a pact with the devil and sells his soul in exchange for knowledge and power. The film combines live actors with stop-motion animation and draws on Goethe's play and Grabbe's novel to build an unsettling atmosphere.
The cover belongs to the «Maestros de la Animación» series, announces a 2-DVD edition and includes the logos of the Karlovy Vary and Cannes festivals.
For those interested in auteur cinema, experimental animation and European surrealism.
