«El silencio del mar» is the film by Jean-Pierre Melville (1949), starring Howard Vernon, Nicole Stephane and Jean-Marie Robain, on Blu-ray.

In occupied France in the winter of 1941, an old man and his niece are forced to house a German officer. Although the soldier is cultured and tries to strike up conversation, they respond with a silence that becomes their form of resistance. It is Jean-Pierre Melville's debut feature: an anti-war statement with minimalist staging.
