In 1954 Germany, the return of a prisoner of war shakes the life of his son Matthias, an eleven-year-old boy passionate about football who has found a father figure in local player Helmut Rahn, called up for the World Cup in Switzerland. The reunion with a father marked by captivity strains the family, and only the boy's passion for sport can restore his enthusiasm and bring them together again.
