Byron Orlock (Boris Karloff) is an aging horror film star who decides to retire, feeling that his type of movie monster has become passé. Meanwhile, a young director, Sammy Michaels (Peter Bogdanovich), tries to convince him to take one last role. Concurrently, Bobby Thompson (Tim O'Kelly), a gun-obsessed man, goes on a shooting rampage. Their paths eventually collide in this tense psychological thriller, which serves as Peter Bogdanovich's directorial debut and a poignant commentary on violence and the evolution of cinema.
