«El general De La Rovere» is the 1959 film by Roberto Rossellini, starring Vittorio De Sica, Giovanna Ralli and Sandra Milo, on DVD.
In Genoa occupied by the Germans in 1943, a swindler is arrested and forced to pose as General della Rovere, an anti-fascist military officer, to identify Resistance leaders. The charade, however, ends up transforming the impostor.
