«El desierto de los Tártaros» is the drama film by Valerio Zurlini (1976), starring Vittorio Gassman, Giuliano Gemma and Francisco Rabal, on DVD.
Adaptation of Dino Buzzati's novel of the same name: a young lieutenant posted to a remote fortress joins a garrison awaiting the attack of an invisible army. The waiting, honour and military routine turn the border outpost into a symbol of solitude and the search for meaning.
This edition features colour image, 1.85:1 and 16:9 aspect ratio, and Dolby Digital 2.0 audio in Italian and Spanish, with Spanish subtitles.
