«Des contes d'Hoffmann» is the film by Pierre Cavassilas (1993), starring Natalie Dessay, Barbara Hendricks and José van Dam, on DVD.
Jacques Offenbach's opera tells of the amorous misfortunes of the poet Hoffmann, who evokes Olympia, Antonia and Giulietta while his antagonist adopts different names; this five-act version, with a libretto by Jules Barbier based on the play by Barbier and Michel Carré, was recorded at the Opéra National de Lyon under the musical direction of Kent Nagano.
