«Carandiru» is the film by Hector Babenco (2003), starring Rodrigo Santoro, Milton Gonçalves and Caio Blat, on DVD.
Based on the book «Estação Carandiru» by Drauzio Varella, the film follows a doctor who does AIDS prevention inside Carandiru prison, in São Paulo. Through the prisoners it shows the solidarity and violence of prison life, up to the 1992 rebellion in which police killed 111 inmates.
