In the suburbs of Tokyo, children gather at the home of the only neighbors with a television. Minoru and Isamu, unable to convince their parents to buy a television, start a silence strike. This comedy by Yasujiro Ozu, a cheerful take on intergenerational relationships, presents subtle jokes and a rich family portrait, satirizing consumerism in postwar Japan through the eyes of children.
