Beneath the surface (original title: Under ytan) is a raw 1997 Swedish drama directed by Daniel Fridell. The film follows the harrowing story of Sandra, a 23-year-old woman who, feeling lost and alienated, falls into the dark world of drug addiction. Her older sister, Jannika, watches helplessly as Sandra spirals into self-destruction, struggling to find a way out before it is too late. This film is known for being one of the darkest and most realistic portrayals of the impact of drugs on young lives.
