«Belle de jour» is the film by Luis Buñuel (1967), starring Catherine Deneuve, Jean Sorel and Michel Piccoli, on DVD.
It tells the story of Séverine, a woman married to a surgeon who leads a double life: by day she is a reserved wife and in the afternoons she visits a luxury brothel. Fantasies and encounters with her clients blur the line between the real and the imagined, in a portrait of repression and bourgeois desire.
DVD edition from Manga Films, winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival (1967). The film runs 96 minutes and the disc includes audio tracks in Spanish and French.
A reference of European surrealist cinema and of Luis Buñuel's filmography, for fans of 1960s auteur cinema.
