Summer 1980: Barbara, a doctor in the GDR, applies for an exit visa and is transferred from Berlin to a rural hospital. Her Western lover prepares her escape, but she keeps her distance. Under the orders of Doctor Andre, who covers for her when she helps a young fugitive, Barbara waits for the day of her flight while losing control of her feelings.
