Set in the treacherous and dazzling world of New York high society in the early 20th century, the film follows Lily Bart, a woman whose beauty and charm place her at the top of the social ladder, but whose independence and lack of fortune lead to a tragic downfall. Based on Edith Wharton's acclaimed novel, it is a biting portrait of social pressures and the limitations imposed on women of the era.
