«Zemlinsky. El rey Candaules y el candaulismo» is the biographical essay by Pedro Beltrán Gámir, published by Círculo Rojo in paperback (136 pages).
The book champions the figure of Alexander von Zemlinsky, a Jewish composer whose music was banned by the Nazis and fell into oblivion after his exile and death in New York. It reviews his life, his eight operas and his main works, with special attention to El rey Candaules, and analyses his relationship with Alma Schindler and Arnold Schoenberg.
It is the first book in Spanish on Zemlinsky, published in 2024 and the first volume of the series Los compositores prohibidos de Hitler.
For classical music and opera enthusiasts, and for readers interested in the recovery of composers banned by Nazism.
