«The Doctor's Dilemma» is the play by George Bernard Shaw subtitled «A Tragedy», published by Penguin in paperback (192 pages, in English).
A respected doctor must decide whom to save from death: a brilliant but dishonest colleague or the artist of dubious morals, husband of the woman he loves. With Shaw's satirical humour, the play reflects on medical ethics, friendship, love and the value of human life in a plot that combines comedy and gravity.
The original text was published in 1906; this Penguin edition is part of the Penguin Plays & Screenplays series.
For readers of classic theatre and satire, and for those who appreciate moral conflicts.
George Bernard Shaw was an Irish playwright, critic, polemicist and political activist. His influence on Western theatre, culture and politics extended from the 1880s to his death and beyond. He wrote more than sixty plays, including major works such as Man and Superman (1902), Pygmalion (1913) and Saint Joan (1923). With a range incorporating both contemporary satire and historical allegory, Shaw became the leading dramatist of his generation, and was awarded the 1925 Nobel Prize in Literature.
