In Iberia in the 5th century BC, Zumel faces the initiation rite to become an adult: hunting a wolf. He finds a black specimen nicknamed «King», but after hunting it, he gives it to his friend Turrillo, son of the village chief, to prevent him from being exposed to others. Years later, Zumel and Cotrufes enlist as Persian mercenaries to fight against the Greeks. After twelve years of hardship, they decide to return to their homeland, but Cotufres is murdered when applying for the license. Zumel decides to avenge his godfather by killing the person responsible, Potasio, being forced to flee. After embarking on a Phoenician ship, he arrives at his village and decides to dedicate himself to shepherding. However, he discovers that Turrillo, his friend, has a son with Belasia, the woman he loved, who is now a courtesan of the chief, since Turrillo has become the leader of the village.
