Marta Mata va ser alumna del Grup Escolar Pere Vila, on la seva mare feia de mestra, i de l'Institut-Escola. I va veure com el franquisme aniquilava aquelles institucions modèliques. "Jo he vist matar l'escola", deia, "i he vist com l'escola ressucitava. I ni una cosa ni l'altra es produeix per evolució". Perquè, si l'escola va ressuscitar, va ser grà cies a un grapat de persones que es van entestar a fer-la reviure. I la Marta hi va tenir un paper principal. Ella havia conegut les escoles republicanes, i es va formar, i va servir de fil per lligar aquell passat lluminós amb una revolució pedagògica que va impulsar, sobretot, des de l'Escola de Mestres Rosa Sensat. Trobem Marta Mata darrere de tantes iniciatives que sembla que no pugui ser. I sempre, a favor dels infants.
