«Madrigals, Book VIII» is Claudio Monteverdi's collection of madrigals, published by Dover Publications in paperback (400 pages, in English).
This volume brings together all the madrigals from Book VIII by Claudio Monteverdi, published in Venice in 1638. The work is divided into two parts, Canti guerrieri and Canti amorosi, devoted respectively to war and love, and sums up some thirty years of the author's musical creation. It includes the Italian texts with English translations.
It is Claudio Monteverdi's eighth and final book of madrigals. The edition, prepared by Gian Francesco Malipiero, reprints the text of Tutte le opere (1929), with a preface and English translations by Stanley Appelbaum.
For performers and scholars of Baroque music, with original Italian texts and English translation.
