«Lejos de Cafarnaúm» is the play by María Eugenia Salaverri, published by Algaida Editores in paperback (120 pages, in Spanish).
An assassination attempt on the pope triggers a crisis: while the pontiff fights for his life, ultra-conservative cardinals try to depose him. Beatrice Belli runs a women's magazine promoted by the pope, with four journalists of different ages and religions. The play erupts in a verbal duel about death, love, freedom and politics.
The play won the 56th Kutxa Literary Prize City of San Sebastián. The first edition, published in 2022, belongs to the Algaida Literaria - Poetry collection.
Aimed at readers of contemporary theatre and those who enjoy plots of power and intrigue in the Vatican.
