«La República o el Estado» is Plato's philosophical dialogue, published by Espasa-Calpe in paperback (303 pages, in Spanish).
Plato examines what justice is and how the city-state should be organised. Through dialogues featuring Socrates, he compares different forms of government and argues that the knowledge of philosophers should guide politics. The work links justice with happiness and contrasts true knowledge with mere appearance.
The original Greek title is Πολιτεία. This volume belongs to the Colección Austral, number 220.
A reference work for philosophy students and readers interested in the political thought of classical Greece.
Plato was an ancient Greek philosopher of Classical Athens who is most commonly considered the foundational thinker of the Western philosophical tradition. An innovator of the literary dialogue and dialectic forms, Plato influenced all the major areas of theoretical philosophy and practical philosophy, and was the founder of the Academy, a philosophical school in Athens where Plato taught the collection of philosophical theories that would later become known as Platonism.
