«La mélancolie des fast foods» is the novel by Jean-Marc Parisis, published by Grasset in paperback (120 pages, in French).
It portrays Hugues Laroque, a cynical young dandy who defines himself as a «passive fascist» and waits for war while passing judgment on his era: lepenism, the dogma of «Touche-pas-à-mon-pote», the delirium of communication and café-theatre. His hopelessness pits him against his friend Maury, a National Front activist, and his fiancée Laurence.
The work was originally published in France in 1987; the cover of this edition bears the subtitle «roman», and the text is in French.
For readers of contemporary French fiction interested in the generational portrait and political satire of the 1980s.
